Linebacker Shaq Thompson returns to Buffalo, signing with Bills’ practice squad

Orchard Park, N.Y. (AP) — Veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson is returning to Buffalo, signing with the Bills' practice squad on Monday. Thompson, a seasoned NFL player, joins 17 other players in this move. Over his 11-year career, Thompson has played for Carolina for the first 10 seasons. After his one-year contract with Buffalo expired in March, he was left unsigned.

This addition to the practice squad provides depth at inside linebacker for the Bills, whose defense is transitioning to a 3-4 system under new coordinator Jim Leonhard. The Bills currently have just four inside linebackers, with Thompson joining starters Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams on the roster. Thompson made six starts during the previous season's 12 games played with Buffalo.

Receiver Greg Dortch and quarterback Shane Buechele are also part of the practice squad additions. Dortch, a sixth-year veteran, had a successful five-year stint with Arizona, where he accumulated 145 catches, 1,310 yards, and 10 touchdowns in 66 games. Buechele, who was recently released by Buffalo, brings valuable experience to the team.
