Liberals win B.C. riding of North-Vancouver Capilano in federal byelection

Former political aide to Prime Minister Mark Carney, Braeden Caley, has won the federal byelection in the North Vancouver-Capilano riding of British Columbia. With over 90 percent of the polls reporting late Monday, Caley secured a decisive victory over Conservative candidate Stephen Curran and Green Party representative Shelley Luce.

Caley's campaign focused on partnership over division, reducing costs for Canadians, building affordable homes, infrastructure development, and addressing climate change. He pledged to stand firmly behind Canadian workers and businesses while constructing a strong Canada for all. Caley, who had previously worked for Carney, returned to his home province to campaign for the seat.

The Liberal party's strong national poll numbers were attributed to Carney's decision to halt trade talks with the United States. The riding, known for its busy port and economic opportunities, was considered a Liberal stronghold following the 2025 federal election, during which former cabinet minister Jonathan Wilkinson won his fourth term.

Caley emphasized the importance of addressing local concerns and ensuring the federal government prioritizes the North Shore's needs.
