Korea festival showcases culture, strengthens Ghana-Korea ties

Hundreds gathered at Accra's 2026 Korea Festival on Saturday to revel in Korean culture through displays of music, dance, food and language. The event, organized by Ghana's Korean embassy, aimed to deepen cultural bonds between the two nations. The festival included a Korean speech contest, K-pop performances, exhibitions and interactive activities.

Winners of the contests received awards for their performances. Ambassador Park Kyongsig of Korea emphasized the festival's role in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Korea. He shared Korea's unique myth of the bear that transformed into a woman after enduring hardships, drawing parallels with Ghana's own cultural heritage and family values.

The ambassador encouraged attendees to embrace cultural exchange, noting that understanding another's traditions is a step towards lasting friendship. A University of Ghana student, Anita Oforiwaa Mensah, praised the festival as an enriching experience that deepened her appreciation for Korean traditions and inspired her to learn more about the language and culture.
