JNI: No Muslim group planning to establish Hisbah in Plateau

The Plateau State chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has refuted claims that any Muslim organization is operating under the Hisbah umbrella in Jos North Local Government Area of the state. This comes after the state government made allegations of the group's recent activities, sparking controversy both within and outside the region.

Dr. Salim Musa Umar, the Secretary of JNI in Plateau State, addressed the Daily Trust, clarifying that no Islamic organization in the state has announced plans to establish Hisbah in Jos North. He emphasized that the controversy originated from social media, where individuals allegedly used artificial intelligence-generated images to create the false impression of a Hisbah organization being established in the local government area.

Umar assured the public that no such organization exists within Plateau, stating that the matter has never been discussed or considered. He highlighted that establishing Hisbah requires enabling legislation passed by the State House of Assembly, which has not been accomplished. Consequently, no one can claim to have legally established Hisbah.

Umar urged the Plateau State Government to conduct thorough investigations when religious issues arise, especially those that could potentially cause community tensions. He also called on social media users to avoid creating or spreading content that could lead to misunderstandings and disrupt peaceful coexistence in the state. The controversy over the alleged Hisbah establishment in Jos North continues to generate debate among residents, both online and in community discussions.
