Japan survey shows lack of toilet access tops disaster concerns

On Disaster Prevention Day in Japan, Taiko Pharmaceutical Co. released survey results on emergency toilet preparedness, highlighting a significant lack of readiness among the public. The inability to access a toilet during a disaster topped the list of concerns, with only a minority of respondents having stocked emergency toilet kits at home.

To address this issue, the company began providing free portable toilets at major train stations in Osaka to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for toilet disruptions during emergencies. Despite the widespread concern, many individuals continue to delay making necessary preparations. The Japanese government recommends having enough emergency toilets for five uses per person per day, but only a fraction of those who claimed to have stockpiled them were prepared for this duration.
