JAMB, WAEC End Multiple O’Level Verification Charges, Fix N4,000 One-off Fee

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a new arrangement to simplify the verification of O’Level results for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions. Under this new system, candidates will only need to pay a one-time N4,000 fee to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results through JAMB.

Once this verification is complete, the result will be made available to all relevant tertiary institutions, eliminating the need for multiple verifications.

This move is expected to bring relief to admission seekers who have previously faced repeated verification processes, causing financial and logistical burdens. JAMB and WAEC issued a joint statement explaining that the N4,000 payment should be made through the JAMB Verification Service platform, not to individual institutions. They also directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results provided by JAMB for admission screening and administrative purposes, prohibiting them from charging candidates for additional verifications.

The new policy came about after consultations between JAMB and WAEC to streamline the verification process. WAEC has authorized JAMB to share the verification results with relevant institutions for admission-related purposes. This arrangement allows candidates to verify their WASSCE results from anywhere with internet access, reducing the need for repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
