Israel kills children in intensifying attacks on Gaza over past day

In the past day, Israel has intensified its attacks on Gaza, resulting in the deaths of five Palestinians, according to the Palestinian health ministry. At least seven air strikes hit an area west of Gaza City within a 10-minute span on Tuesday morning, killing a child. Israeli soldiers also opened fire in Deir el-Balah, killing another child.

Dense scenes emerged in Gaza City following intense Israeli attacks, with 10 blasts heard in al-Kateeba, one of the city's most crowded regions. Palestinian journalist Abdulrahman Ismail reported that the attacks targeted an area near a field hospital and thousands of tents housing displaced Palestinians. Israeli drones filled the sky over Gaza City, with smoke bombs reported over Al-Shati.

People remained trapped in the area, and Mai Elawawda, a representative for Medical Aid for Palestine, expressed the constant stress of potential Israeli attacks. Over 73,400 Palestinians have been killed since the genocide began in October 2023, with aid groups warning that the rainy season could worsen the humanitarian crisis.

The water and sanitation infrastructure in Gaza has been nearly destroyed or damaged by Israel, leading to a surge in diarrhoea cases and contaminated water. The World Health Organization's representative in the Palestinian territories, Reinhilde Van de Weerdt, stated that water quality and contamination have reached alarming levels.
