I led the first jury win against Tesla’s Autopilot. I get too many inquiries on potential cases to review them all.

Brett Schreiber, a plaintiff trial lawyer, recently secured the first jury win against Tesla involving its Autopilot system. Schreiber, based in California, explained that he receives numerous inquiries about potential cases involving Tesla's Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems. However, he must reject many of these inquiries due to the high costs of litigation.

The recent verdict, which found Tesla partially liable in a fatal accident involving Autopilot, ordered the company to pay over $242.5 million in damages. Tesla has since appealed the verdict. Schreiber, who has been practicing law since 2005, emphasized that while the actions of the driver in the case were also at fault, Tesla's role in overstating and overselling the technology must be taken into account.

He highlighted the unique challenges in proving software defects in autonomous vehicle technology, as there is no mechanical failure to point to like in traditional auto-product liability cases. Schreiber's firm is actively building expertise in this nascent area of litigation, as there is currently no established playbook for such cases.
