‘I had about 60 questions’ — Atta Akyea explains need for extra cross-examination day in NSB case

Former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene's lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, welcomed the Accra High Court's decision to extend the defence's opportunity to cross-examine a prosecution witness. Akyea had prepared approximately 60 questions for the fourth prosecution witness but would reduce them to about 40 to adhere to the court's three-hour limit.

He explained that the additional day was required because certain areas of the witness's testimony had not been fully explored. "Very much so, because it is not right to truncate cross-examination when some areas have not been covered. We have some residual but consequential areas for the cover," Akyea stated. The defence will concentrate on the most crucial aspects of the witness's evidence upon resuming questioning.

The court postponed the trial to September 2, 2026, for the continuation of the cross-examination. The witness, an investigator with the Economic and Organised Crime Office, has been providing testimony regarding the investigation into possible financial misconduct involving Adu-Boahene and other accused individuals connected to a cybersecurity procurement deal at the National Signals Bureau. Adu-Boahene and his co-accused maintain their innocence.
