How ex-gov Sylva rose through APC before EFCC summons

Timipre Sylva's political career within the All Progressives Congress (APC) began over a decade ago, as he transitioned from a former governor of Bayelsa State to a leading figure in the APC and a significant financier of the party in the state. However, his political fortunes took a sharp decline after he resigned from the party on August 31, 2026, and faced a renewed summons from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $14.86m fraud.

Prior to this, Sylva had been a prominent politician in the Bayelsa chapter of the APC, having first served as the governor of Bayelsa State from 2007 to 2012. After losing his bid for re-election, Sylva switched allegiance to the APC, becoming a leading candidate and financier for the party in Bayelsa. Despite his contributions to the party, Sylva expressed deep disappointment in its direction, stating that the ideals the party stood for had been thoroughly undermined.
