Hoch angereichertes Uran: IAEA: Iran verweigert Kooperation mit Atominspektoren

Iran continues to defy international nuclear inspectors regarding its contentious uranium reserves, according to an undisclosed report by IAEA chief Rafael Grossi. The Islamic Republic has consistently withheld information about nearly 440 kilograms of nearly weapon-grade uranium from the IAEA in Vienna, a substance that could potentially be used to create several atomic weapons if its purity is further increased.

Inspectors from the IAEA currently lack access to more than 20 sites within Iran's nuclear program. Tehran denies having intentions to build nuclear weapons. In the aftermath of the Iran war, the United States and Israel have attacked numerous nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic, causing significant damage. In response, Tehran has employed a blockading approach towards the IAEA.

The United States and Iran struck a framework agreement in June aimed at ending the war and paving the way for further negotiations, which included the dilution of high-enriched uranium under IAEA supervision. Nonetheless, nothing of the sort has transpired since June. Since June, Washington and Teheran have accused each other of violating the framework agreement. The Iran war has seen its first escalation in mutual attacks in weeks in recent days.
