Germany Blames Russia for Attempted Airport Drone Attack

The German government has accused Russia of being responsible for an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that Russia's hybrid attack in Leipzig, known for its use of drones, explosives, and detonation systems, aligns with a series of destabilization operations against Europe.

Authorities found a drone with explosives and a detonator near Ukrainian cargo aircraft, and a third drone with explosives was also discovered at the airport. German federal prosecutors confirmed Russian responsibility for the attempted attack. Interior Minister Dobrindt warned that Germany will not be at war but will remain a daily target of hybrid warfare, responding in a proportionate and measured, yet resolute manner.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced additional measures, including the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the rescinding of a contract for the Russian House in Berlin. Germany will continue supporting Ukraine in its defensive battle against Russian aggression. NATO and the EU expressed solidarity with Germany, vowing to deter and defend against threats from Russia, while emphasizing that hybrid attacks will not go without a clear response.
