France's international photojournalism festival founder Leroy dies

Jean-Francois Leroy, the founder of the prestigious photojournalism festival Visa pour l’Image, passed away at the age of 69 due to cancer, according to a statement released on Monday, August 31. The festival, which takes place annually in Perpignan, southern France, expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of the historic director and supporter of photojournalists worldwide.

For the first time in its 38-year history, Leroy was absent from the opening ceremony of the festival, which is the sole event globally dedicated to showcasing the work of top photojournalists. Despite his declining health, Leroy played a full role in organizing this year's edition, as confirmed by Delphine Lelu, the managing director, who spoke to AFP.
