Fortuin and Jansen bowl Proteas to victory over Zimbabwe after Pretorius' career-best 94

In a T20I match held in Windhoek on Tuesday, South Africa's Proteas secured a comfortable 43-run victory over their neighbors Zimbabwe. The Proteas set a formidable total of 184/6, with Lhuan-dre Pretorius delivering a career-best 94 off 51 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes. Dewald Brevis contributed with a well-fired 41 off 27 balls, narrowly missing out on a third consecutive half-century.

Zimbabwe's openers, Ben Curran and Brian Bennett, started the chase in fine form, quickly reaching 20 without loss in the initial two overs. However, Curran's dismissal, caught at short fine-leg while attempting a sweep shot at Prenelan Subrayen, triggered a rapid collapse. Every subsequent batsman found it challenging to steer clear of trouble.

Captain Bjorn Fortuin made an early impact, claiming the wickets of Bennett and Wessly Madhevere in a single over. Despite Zimbabwe's best attempts to counter Fortuin's spin, the Patumans and Jansen's pace and bounce proved too much for them. The twin brother of Proteas veteran Marco displayed his usual comfort in international T20 cricket, once again delivering an impressive performance, with Jansen (3/21) exploiting Zimbabwe's middle order with two consecutive strikes.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza (41 off 27 balls) managed to add some respectability to his team's total with a few aggressive shots off Proteas leg-spinner Nqaba Peter. However, he, too, succumbed to the brilliance of Fortuin, his fellow teammate at Paarl Royals. The Proteas struggled with some sloppy catching attempts in the closing stages, but their solid foundation had already secured the crucial victory.
