Former Gang Member Found Guilty Of Murdering US Rapper Tupac Shakur

A jury in Las Vegas has found Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty of orchestrating the murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur, ending a long-standing cold case that had baffled authorities for nearly three decades. The verdict came after just three hours of deliberation, with jurors convicting Davis, a former Los Angeles gang member, of facilitating the 1996 drive-by shooting in Las Vegas that killed the 25-year-old rapper.

Prosecutors argued that Davis had ordered the killing in retaliation for Tupac's assault on his nephew, a claim bolstered by Davis' own public statements. However, his defense team argued these statements were fabricated, meant to enhance his notoriety and sell books. Despite this, prosecutors presented evidence including Davis' own statements in a 2019 memoir and podcast, where he openly admitted his involvement in the crime.

Over the course of the two-week trial, prosecutors called 24 witnesses and played over eight hours of recordings, mostly of Davis himself discussing his role in the murder. The defense only presented three police investigators to testify. The convicted Davis, 63, could now face life in prison without parole, with the judge to decide on the exact sentence at a later date.
