Former England Captain Stokes joins BBL side Adelaide Strikers

Former England all-rounder Ben Stokes has signed with Australian Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Adelaide Strikers for the 2026-27 season. The 35-year-old, who retired from international cricket in June, is expected to earn A$500,000 ($357,000) per year. Stokes expressed excitement about joining Adelaide, praising the Oval as "an incredible place to play cricket" and the BBL as a "fantastic competition."

He also noted that the Strikers have an "exciting group" and is eager to contribute to a successful season. Stokes will be under the guidance of former Australia captain Tim Paine, who described him as "one of the greatest all-rounders the game has seen" and a "proven match-winner." The Strikers have not won the BBL title since the 2017-18 season, with the reigning champions, Perth Scorchers, holding the majority of victories.
