Former Edmonton peace officer placed on house arrest for impersonating a police officer

Kyle Edmund Boozan, a former Edmonton transit peace officer, has been placed under house arrest for impersonating an Edmonton Police Service officer. Boozan, 35, pleaded guilty to four charges, including falsely representing himself as a police officer and using a badge, uniform, or equipment to deceive people. The deception began when Boozan met a woman on Fetlife, a social media platform for the fetish community, in May 2025.

He pretended to be a cop because her profile showed interest in police officers. Boozan informed her of his police status in person and via text messages, providing details of his employment, including different units or positions he held with the Edmonton Police Service. He used his fiancée's badge and uniform to impersonate an Edmonton Police Service officer and sent photos to the woman.

The woman also provided Boozan with a key to her apartment, trusting him as a police officer. When she discovered he was a transit peace officer, she asked Boozan for her keys back. Despite her request, Boozan showed up at her home unexpectedly without prior communication, entered her apartment without permission, and left her keys on the floor outside her suite.

Police executed a search warrant less than a week later and seized several firearms and ammunition, which were not stored correctly. Boozan was previously uncharged, had no criminal record, and was born and raised in St. Catherines, Ontario. He was sentenced to 24 months less a day of house arrest with an ankle monitor, three years of probation, a ban on owning weapons for 10 years, prohibition from possessing police badges or uniforms, a $1,100 surcharge, and a prohibition from contacting the woman he met online.
