Fire Breaks Out at Lahore General Hospital

A fire erupted in the gynecology ward of Lahore General Hospital (LGH), leading to the evacuation of approximately 70 individuals, including pregnant women, from the affected structure. According to initial accounts, the fire was swiftly extinguished, yet dense smoke permeated the gynecology ward, instilling fear among patients, caregivers, and hospital personnel.

It was later determined that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit within the hospital's ceiling wiring. The blaze, coupled with the smoke, impacted the ward while patients and their attendants were inside. As a precaution, 70 people were safely evacuated from the building. This prompt action ensured that patients and other occupants were moved away from the hazardous area.

No serious injuries were documented. However, a security guard experienced breathing problems after inhaling smoke during the incident and was subsequently transported to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment. His condition was subsequently reported as stable. This incident occurred just over a week after a fatal hospital fire in Islamabad, where 14 newborns lost their lives when a fire ignited in a nursery at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on August 26, 2026.

The PIMS fire took place on the third floor of the hospital's Mother and Child Health ward, reigniting discussions about fire safety protocols and emergency response capabilities at major public hospitals in Pakistan.
