FBI, Justice Dep't seize $560,000 in Hamas cryptocurrency, take control of Hamas domains and servers

The FBI and the Justice Department have seized $560,000 in cryptocurrency and taken control of domains and servers once used by Hamas for fundraising and recruitment, according to a recent announcement from the US Department of Justice. Hamas, classified as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, has been utilizing these resources to support terrorist activities and attract new supporters, stated US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Pirro declared, "We will stop your fundraising for terror," as the Department dismantled Hamas' communication platforms and websites, effectively disrupting their fundraising and recruitment efforts. The seized infrastructure belonged to the Hamas military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades, which controlled the main website, AlQassam.ps.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security, John A. Eisenberg, explained that these actions have removed Hamas' financial resources and prevented the group from financing terrorist attacks, such as the October 7, 2023 incident. Assistant Director Brett Leatherman of the FBI's Cyber Division further elaborated that Hamas relies on digital platforms to solicit funds from donors globally and to move money outside the traditional financial system.

The FBI remains committed to intercepting illicit funds and preventing terrorist organizations from exploiting digital networks for their operations.
