Expert witness to testify on Ntuli cellphone records in Meyiwa trial

The forthcoming Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the High Court of Pretoria is set to include testimony from an expert witness regarding the cellphone records of Mabhungu Ntuli. Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng mandated on Monday that an expert witness be invited to help the court analyze the cellphone records. The prosecution contends that these records conflict with the defendant's third accused, Mthobisi Mncube, who claims he was with Ntuli on the day of Meyiwa's death on October 26, 2014.

The prosecution argues that Ntuli's phone activity does not align with Mncube's account of their whereabouts. The judge has ruled that the defense will also have the chance to challenge the expert's testimony. Judge Mokgoatlheng explained that the invocation of Section 186 of the Criminal Procedure Act will aid the court in reaching a fair decision based on both the law and the facts, thanks to the expert witness.

This expert will provide sworn testimony and will be subject to cross-examination by all counsel present. They also have the right to prepare their defense and can choose to respond to the cross-examination with a rebuttal.
