Ex-gang boss found guilty in 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur

Former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis has been found guilty of orchestrating the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, marking the first conviction in the long-standing cold case. The 63-year-old appeared impassive as the verdict was read in a Las Vegas court, stating he would appeal. Shakur's relatives held hands, some hugging and crying, as Shakur was 25 when he was killed during a drive-by shooting.

Prosecutors argued that Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, ordered the shooting and supplied the gun used by his nephew Orlando Anderson. The case, which had intrigued hip-hop fans for nearly three decades, concluded with Davis' admission in a 2008 police interview and his 2019 memoir. His defence team attempted to portray his statements as exaggeration, but jurors accepted his account as truth, leading to the guilty verdict. Davis is expected to be sentenced on October 13.
