Everton Eye £40m Striker As Transfer Deadline Hits Final Hours: Right Choice For Moyes?

Everton are in the final hours of the transfer window, targeting a £40m striker to bolster their attack following Beto's £15.4m departure. The 25-year-old American forward, Folarin Balogun, is the primary focus of their bid, valued at around £40m by his current club AS Monaco. Despite Monaco's desire to cash in on the World Cup star, who scored three goals in four matches for the US during the tournament, Everton's initial valuation was significantly lower at around €18m to €20m (£15m to £16.5m).

However, the £40m offer is a considerable jump, and the two clubs may face difficulty agreeing on a price. Manchester United's David Moyes, who values his players in a physical, aerially dominant style, sees Balogun as a poor fit as his playing style relies on high defensive lines and transitional football. Balogun's lack of experience and mental toughness, along with a troubled World Cup performance, raise questions about his suitability for Moyes' system.

While Richarlison remains a backup option, the £40m price tag for a forward who may not fit into Everton's playing style could be seen as a panicked decision.
