Employees Absolutely Loath AI in the Workplace, Survey Finds

A recent survey conducted by Glassdoor, a workplace review site owned by Indeed, has found that employees are overwhelmingly unhappy with the increasing presence of AI in the workplace. Since 2019, the number of mentions of AI or large language models (LLMs) in worker reviews has surged by 240 percent, with most of the sentiment becoming increasingly negative over time.

In 2019, 81 percent of AI-related reviews were positive, but this figure plummeted to just 43 percent in 2026. Negative sentiment also rose from 41 percent in 2025 to 53 percent earlier this year. When broken down by job type, certain professions were particularly vocal in their criticism of AI. Writers, editors, and journalists were among the most vocal, with 81 percent of their reviews expressing dissatisfaction with the technology.

Surprisingly, accountants also ranked high on the list of negative reviewers, with 80 percent of their comments being critical of AI.

Interestingly, insurance claims adjustors emerged as the biggest detractors of AI, with 98 percent of their comments expressing their disapproval. The reasons for their discontent were varied. Twenty percent of negative comments mentioned AI being used by bosses as a "job killer," while another 14 percent complained about workplaces "pushing" AI onto employees, forcing them to use the technology regardless of their preferences.

Additionally, 13 percent of reviewers found AI to be "distracting" from their core duties, and 10 percent believed that management was using AI to "alienate" workers through increased surveillance and monitoring.

Glassdoor's research team concluded that the negative sentiment surrounding AI in the workplace is not solely due to the fear of being replaced by the technology. Instead, workers resent the push to incorporate AI into products, use it internally, and the use of AI for monitoring or communication purposes. The survey highlights the diverse range of reasons why employees are turning against AI in the workplace, even if their individual grievances are unique to their specific roles and experiences.
