Ebonyi: Police deny alleged demand of N4.2m for release of six suspects

The Ebonyi State Police Command has refuted claims that the commissioner of police demanded N4.2 million from six families to release their sons. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the allegation was made in a social media post by Mr. Justice Ozobi. Ukandu mentioned that the post contained numerous typographical errors, incoherent assertions, and a lack of factual accuracy.

The police spokesman further pointed out that the image used in the post belonged to a retired former Ebonyi State commissioner of police, indicating the author's apparent lack of research before publishing the allegation. The Ebonyi State Police Command emphasized that they do not handle land disputes and that the claim linking the Commissioner of Police or the command to an alleged collection of money for a land-related matter or the release of arrested individuals is baseless.

They reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, discipline, accountability, and transparency and stated that any allegation of misconduct against a police officer will be investigated thoroughly if credible evidence is provided. The command challenged Mr. Justice Ozobi to provide evidence to support his allegation instead of publishing unsubstantiated and defamatory claims intended to generate traffic and engagement on his social media platform.
