The Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to evolve, marked by ongoing transmission, high mortality rates, and expanding geographic reach. As of the latest report on 30 August 2026, the cumulative number of confirmed cases has risen to 6,100, including 2,950 deaths, resulting in a case fatality rate (CFR) of 48.4%.

This includes 516 new cases and 270 deaths since the previous report, bringing the total to 6,100 confirmed cases across six provinces. Ituri remains the epicenter, accounting for 82.2% of the total confirmed cases, although transmission has intensified in Nord-Kivu and Haut-Uélé, with Biena, Manguredjipa, and Ganga in Nord-Kivu, and Ganga in Bas-Uélé newly affected. The outbreak has expanded from 57 health zones to 60 since the last update.
