Dubai's Uptown Motor City residents oppose new Parkonic paid parking plan

Homeowners and tenants in Dubai's Uptown Motor City are opposing a new paid parking plan set to launch on September 3, according to property management company Edacom. The scheme, introduced in partnership with parking operator Parkonic, requires visitors to pay Dh5 per hour for parking, while residents' parking remains free. The property management firm claims the new system aims to enhance efficiency and accessibility, but residents argue they were not given sufficient time to review the changes.

Edacom states that only visitor parking will be affected, with a 15-minute grace period before charges begin. However, residents with additional vehicles will need to pay either the hourly fee or opt for a long-term membership, the details of which will be shared on September 1. The company asserts that the new fees will help maintain visitor spaces for genuine visitors and retail customers while improving traffic flow and overall parking management.

Residents, on the other hand, are skeptical about the effectiveness of paid parking as a solution, with some expressing concerns about potential misuse. Property owners have suggested limiting charges to certain hours and waiving fees on weekends, but Edacom maintains that the current terms are necessary to promote a well-managed and secure community.
