Double Fine are all in on making Brutal Legend 2, if you're willing to give them $100 million in their game jam Kickstarter, anyway

After Microsoft relinquished control over Double Fine, the indie developer has taken it upon themselves to craft a Brutal Legend 2. Currently, they are hosting a game jam Kickstarter that includes a stretch goal for the sequel, if backers are willing to contribute $100 million. While it's unlikely the goal will be met, the effort is commendable. The Kickstarter does seem worthy of support despite our collective dreams of a Brutal Legend 2 already being dashed.

Double Fine's previous game jam, Amnesia Fortnight, has birthed successful titles like Costume Quest and the Psychonauts 2 brain world Compton's Cook-off. In this new Kickstarter, supporters are essentially voting on prototypes created by the Double Fine team. For the price of their contribution, backers can vote on a selection of these prototypes, with four advancing to a head-to-head round. The winner will then be transformed into a small game.

A playlist of 30-second pitches for the prototypes is available for those interested. Among the intriguing ideas are Emergency Foley Artist, a Jackbox-style party game, and Uprise, a pseudo-kart racer featuring aliens. There's also a documentary being made about the process, which I find particularly fascinating given Double Fine's newfound independence from Microsoft and their recent layoffs. Donating to this Kickstarter is a worthy cause in my opinion.
