Dept says medicine supplies in public health sector remain stable

The Department of Health in South Africa has reassured the public that medicine supplies in the public sector remain stable, despite worries about shortages and alterations in the appearance of certain medicines. A spokesperson for the department, Foster Mohale, clarified that variations in color, shape, and packaging do not signify a change in the actual medication.

Mohale highlighted that supply disruptions can stem from manufacturing issues, global shortages, transport delays, and procurement changes. He advised patients with questions or concerns about these changes to consult their healthcare professionals, such as doctors, pharmacists, or nurses, who can explain the reasons behind the changes and confirm the continued suitability of the medicine for treatment.
