DCI arrests 3 persons of interest over Ksh169K M-Pesa shop robbery in Machakos

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended three individuals connected to a Ksh169,000 M-Pesa shop heist in Katangi, Yatta Sub-County, Machakos County. This robbery took place on May 15, 2026, when an M-Pesa worker was targeted and robbed of cash and an M-Pesa till phone. Following tips from the public, detectives initiated their probe and managed to apprehend one suspect in Katangi Shopping Centre.

Subsequently, they extended their investigation to Yathui in Mwala Sub-County, where they intercepted two more suspects traveling in a white Toyota Corolla. This vehicle was seized and is currently held as part of the ongoing investigation. During the operation, detectives also recovered the stolen M-Pesa till phone, which was positively identified as the device taken during the robbery.

This recovery is crucial for investigators to unravel the details of the incident and establish the link between the suspects and the crime. The operation was made possible by information provided by members of the public, emphasizing the significance of community cooperation in supporting law enforcement efforts. The three suspects are currently in police custody, and detectives are proceeding with their case processing.

The impounded vehicle and recovered M-Pesa till phone remain as exhibits while investigators continue their pursuit of additional leads.
