Coronation group honours Nigerian artists with three-month exhibition

The Coronation Art Gallery has inaugurated a three-month exhibition titled "The Value of Belief — Collectors, Conviction and the Making of Cultural Futures." The exhibition, held at Coronation Plaza in Victoria Island, Lagos, showcases works from the private collections of three prominent Nigerian collectors: Kayode Adegbola, Kola Aina, and Seyi Ajibola.

These collectors' long-standing interest in Nigerian art has played a pivotal role in shaping the country's contemporary art scene. Their collections encompass various mediums, including paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works, illustrating years of deliberate investment in artists and creative communities. The exhibition delves into the relationship between art collecting and investment, emphasizing the significance of conviction in identifying value before it gains widespread recognition.

Kayode Akindele, Managing Partner at Coronation Capital, highlighted that the exhibition offers a platform for collectors, artists, clients, and executives to engage in a shared understanding of value. He likened the collectors' conviction in supporting Nigerian artists to the approach required in long-term investment. The opening ceremony drew a diverse crowd, including business leaders, senior executives, collectors, artists, cultural practitioners, and media professionals.

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Group, Aig-Imoukhuede, and other distinguished guests attended the event. The exhibition is set to run until November 2026, with additional activities such as private viewings for clients, a curated tour for university students, and a closing webinar featuring the curator and collectors.

Ngozi Akinyele, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Coronation Group, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the organization's broader perspective on prosperity, which extends beyond financial returns. She emphasized that preserving talent, carrying forward stories, and leaving legacies are equally crucial expressions of wealth.

The Coronation Art Gallery was established to foster African artistic creation, research, education, and appreciation. It aims to leverage art as a platform for storytelling, investment, and cultural development, hosting personalities from various sectors, including business, government, diplomacy, and the creative industries, alongside leading artists, collectors, and cultural practitioners.
