Caleb Amisi to Orengo: You’re free to contest presidency under any political formation

Caleb Amisi, a Saboti Member of Parliament, has defended the right of veteran opposition leader James Orengo to run for any position, including the presidency, under any political formation. Speaking at a press conference on September 1, 2026, Amisi emphasized that no Kenyan should be denied the right to declare their interest in the presidency or contest under the political formation of their choice.

Amisi stated that it is not up to him or anyone else to decide who should hold the presidency, as "we do not owe anybody the seat of presidency." He maintained that Orengo is free to vie under the Linda Mwananchi movement or any other political formation, with the decision ultimately resting with the Siaya governor.

The MP acknowledged the growing demand among young Kenyans for a generational change in leadership, stating that it is not about sidelining veteran politicians, but rather about allowing a new generation to take charge of the country's political and economic transformation. He praised the contributions of veteran leaders to Kenya's political struggles, noting that the youth now seeks the opportunity to lead the next chapter of the country's fourth liberation.

Amisi emphasized that the youth's call for generational change is a simple question and that they will support whoever they choose to lead the movement, whether it be Orengo or someone else. He highlighted that veteran leaders like Orengo deserve recognition for their role in the struggle for democracy, but their experience can be invaluable in mentoring younger leaders towards achieving the generational duty of economic liberation.
