British man rescued in Nepal almost week on from flood, authorities say

A British man has been rescued in Nepal nearly a week after flash floods killed over 1,000 people, authorities confirmed. The unnamed individual was among 118 Nepalese people rescued on Tuesday. In a press conference, an army spokesman announced the rescue operation, stating that 44 of the rescued were female and 74 were male, in addition to the British man.

The search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with challenging conditions in the unstable terrain and debris-laden areas. The Nepali Army reported that 119 people, including the British citizen, were rescued using air resources on Tuesday. Rescue teams are striving to reach hundreds of workers believed to be trapped in tunnels damaged by the floods.

The Foreign Office has been informed about the rescue, and the UK's Foreign Office minister mentioned that 36 British people are still missing, up from the previous figure of 33. The Nepalese Tourist Board reported that 330 foreign nationals have been rescued so far. On Saturday, a UK rapid deployment team arrived in Nepal to assist British nationals and their families, working with local authorities and emergency responders.

This team is part of the UK's broader response to the flooding, which includes £5 million in humanitarian aid for relief and recovery efforts.
