Benefactor wills one-third of estate to support sustainable endowments

Doha, Qatar: A Qatari benefactor has designated one-third of her estate to the Waqf Fund for Righteousness and Piety, with the funds earmarked for the "Waqf Al-Wuqoof" project, according to the General Directorate of Endowments. The General Directorate, which will manage the endowment, oversees both movable and immovable assets, including real estate, shares, and financial balances. The directorate ensures the endowment adheres to the benefactor's stipulations and relevant Shariah and legal guidelines.

The benefactor's commitment to charitable giving is evident, as she previously established an endowment. Her latest will extends this dedication, aiming to establish a continuous source of benefit for the community after her demise. Saleh Al Hawl Al Marri, head of the Endowers Affairs Section at the Waqf Funds Department, noted that documenting such wills aids in maintaining the benefactor's conditions, hence preserving the reward and benefit beyond death.

Al Marri highlighted the significance of allocating diverse assets, such as real estate, shares, and financial assets, to a charitable endowment. The returns from these assets can be directed towards areas chosen by the benefactor, while the core endowment remains preserved and developed in line with Shariah principles and approved standards.

The initiative seeks to amplify the impact of charitable contributions. By channeling returns towards establishing new endowments, the model transforms proceeds into productive endowment assets, creating further income. This approach broadens the beneficiary circle and enhances the sustainability of charitable endowment work. Al Marri praised the benefactor for her continued commitment to waqf, both through prior endowment donations and the recently registered will, viewing her actions as a testament to the importance of planning and documenting charitable activities to ensure their long-lasting impact.
