Apple-OpenAI Fight Escalates With New MacBook Evidence

Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that the AI company utilized confidential information to aid its hardware initiatives. A former engineer, Chang Liu, whose old MacBook is now central to Apple's case, is believed to have accessed and used Apple's confidential technology after joining OpenAI. Apple claims that Liu's actions, along with his instruction to destroy evidence, strengthened its trade secret case against OpenAI.

The former engineer is accused of downloading a confidential circuit schematic and using a tool similar to an internal Apple application at OpenAI. OpenAI, however, disputes Apple's interpretation of Liu's actions, stating that the engineer accessed Apple files for work related to former Apple colleagues and that the documents were irrelevant to his responsibilities at OpenAI.

Apple is seeking damages, expedited discovery, and a preliminary injunction to prevent OpenAI from using the disputed technology. The lawsuit's outcome could significantly impact both companies, including OpenAI's efforts to expand into consumer hardware.
