Anthropic signs US$35b computing deal with Nvidia-backed startup

Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI lab, has inked a $35 billion (RM141 billion) six-year deal with Lambda, a US-based startup backed by Nvidia, for access to its cloud computing power. Lambda will secure this access through a data center being constructed by Hut 8, a bitcoin mining company that also builds data centers. Nvidia, the investor in both Anthropic and Lambda, will lease the data center from Hut 8 and then transfer the access to Lambda, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

This follows Anthropic's recent six-year deal worth $45 billion with London-based cloud provider Nscale, which will provide capacity at a facility in West Virginia. This year alone, Anthropic has signed computing deals worth at least $135 billion, as the AI company competes with OpenAI for customers and revenue. The demand for advanced computing power has surged as AI model developers vie for customers and capacity, impacting global supply chains, including the consumer electronics sector.

Apple has recently increased prices for certain devices due to memory and chip costs, with the company expected to raise prices for its newest generation of iPhones.
