Anklage erhoben: Mutmaßliche Unterstützer rechter Terrorgruppe angeklagt

Two alleged supporters of a right-wing terrorist group have been charged in Hamburg, following a recent court ruling against members of the "Last Defense Wave." The Public Prosecutor's Office in Hamburg now faces the task of determining if the trial will proceed against the two Germans. The two defendants allegedly traveled to a residential asylum seeker shelter in Schmölln, Thuringia, in early January 2025 to set a building on fire.

The State Attorney's Office stated that the group attempted to enter the building through a window and shoot pyrotechnics inside. However, no fire ensued. One of the defendants allegedly secured the scene while the other filmed the act. They are suspected, according to the authorities, of having assisted a domestic terrorist group as minors with a sense of responsibility.

Additionally, they are charged with aiding attempted murder, attempted homicide with the aim of causing death, and attempted arson resulting in death. The two minors, aged 16 and 17 at the time, were arrested just a few weeks ago, on June 30th, in the Landkreis Altenburger Land and Gera, Thuringia. One of the two remains in custody.

A verdict against the main perpetrator was handed down just a few weeks ago, with the Public Prosecutor's Office sentencing seven young members and an associate of the "Last Defense Wave" to prison terms ranging from 1.5 to 5 years. The court also concluded that the group constituted an in-country terrorist organization responsible for committing and planning arson and explosive attacks on asylum seeker shelters and leftist establishments.

Furthermore, members allegedly engaged in "pedo-hunting," or hunting down people they believed to be pedophiles. Five of the accused were arrested in a large sweep in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, and Hesse last May. Three others were already in custody. Prior searches had been conducted in Saxony and Thuringia. Just days after the trial began, the Public Prosecutor's Office conducted a raid on ten additional suspects, searching premises in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Schleswig-Holstein.
