Angels’ September Call-Ups Aim to Stabilize Slumping Team

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Angels announced their final September Call-Ups, re-instating left-hander Samy Natera Jr. from the injured list and recalling infielder Kyren Paris from Triple-A Salt Lake. Natera, who had been on the IL since August 20 with low back muscle spasms, returned to action relatively quickly. Prior to his injury, he had appeared 20 times for the Angels, posting a 2.00 ERA over 27 innings pitched with 42 strikeouts, and had three saves in his three opportunities.

He only made two rehab appearances, but performed admirably, tossing two scoreless innings in Single-A.

The Angels' bullpen suffered immensely following the firings of their coaching staff, with a 6.04 ERA since August 24. Natera's return is expected to significantly improve their performance. Paris is a crucial addition to the team, as the Angels have struggled with offense since August 1, sporting the worst wRC+ in baseball—74 during that period.

Since August 1, Paris has played 62 games for the Salt Lake Bees, posting a .981 OPS, hitting 13 homers, and driving in 50 runs. He last played with the Angels in 2025, appearing in 44 games at the beginning of the season, where he had an OPS just below .800. However, his performance declined significantly, and he was subsequently demoted in May.

Paris is likely to play second base, though shortstop is also a possibility due to the presence of Zach Neto. The Angels will find a suitable spot for Paris, given the team's thin outfield following Gustavo Camperos' injury.
