ANC calls for independent investigation into “slush fund”

The ANC is urging an independent forensic investigation into the Secret Service Account, also known as the slush fund, according to the party. They argue that the account's classification has protected potential wrongdoing from scrutiny. The ANC submitted their concerns to Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee, which is currently reviewing a fourth draft report without objections from other parties.

The committee's investigation is focused on allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference within the justice system. ANC MP Khusela Diko emphasized that the difficulty in conducting an examination is due to the fact that the fund's classification prevents it from being open to scrutiny outside of the legislation governing its classification.

The ANC recommended an independent forensic investigation into the account, a review of the Secret Service Fund's accountability, and legislative amendments to strengthen accountability.
