Airbus to place its A220 simulator in Singapore

Airbus, through its joint venture unit Airbus Asia Training Centre (AATC), will be placing an A220 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) in Singapore. This move aims to support regional airline operators in training their pilots for the upcoming A220 fleet entry into service. The establishment of A220 training capabilities in the Asia Pacific region is a strategic enabler for Airbus' growth in the area, and the demand for A220 training is expected to increase as the aircraft program gains momentum.

AATC, a joint venture between Airbus and Singapore Airlines, will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2027. The A220 Training Services will be carried out in partnership with Flight Training Alliance (FTA), the Airbus Authorized Training Provider for the A220. FTA, a joint venture between CAE and Lufthansa Aviation Training, will deploy the FFS while AATC manages operations and training delivery.

Airbus emphasizes that the A220 continues its expansion across the Asia Pacific region, and the new training simulator in Singapore is a significant milestone in their strategy to provide seamless, high-quality support close to where Airbus' customers operate. Currently, no commercial airlines are operating the A220 in Southeast Asia. AirAsia, however, is set to become the future operator in the region, having ordered 150 A220-300s in May 2023 - the largest single firm order for the aircraft type.

Airbus Asia Pacific president Anand Stanley mentioned in July 2026 that a broader support infrastructure is required for the A220 aircraft in Southeast Asia, not just simulators but also the entire support infrastructure. Airbus sees strong potential for the A220 in Southeast Asia as airlines in the region develop more long, thin routes and secondary-city connections. At the end of July 2026, Airbus had delivered 532 A220s to over 25 operators globally, with total orders surpassing 1100 aircraft.
