AfroExchange brings African music, fashion, creativity to Nairobi

Johnnie Walker has introduced its AfroExchange experience to Nairobi, uniting the city’s creative minds and music enthusiasts at Capital Noir for a celebration of African music, fashion, and culture. The August 29 event showcased live performances, DJ sets, curated cocktails, and interactive art and fashion experiences, underscoring Nairobi’s rising significance in Africa’s contemporary creative landscape.

Headliner Okello Max performed popular tracks such as 'Taya' and 'Nakufa', alongside DJ sets by Festa, Sir M, and DJ Mish, with MC Hypegad maintaining high energy throughout. Guests engaged in painting activities inspired by Nairobi’s nightlife and the Striding Man icon, while a collaboration with 4mtaa Fashion allowed for exploration of artistic fashion pieces.

Mixology masterclasses led by Kingkline Ojal informed attendees on crafting their favorite Johnnie Walker cocktails. Duncan Mokaya, Shopper Manager for Johnnie Walker, emphasized the platform's aim to unite music, culture, and self-expression while bolstering African creatives. Mokaya stated, "Johnnie Walker has always stood for progress and the people who keep moving culture forward."

The Nairobi edition of AfroExchange, part of a broader effort to celebrate African creativity through music, art, and fashion, previously took place in Kisumu and Nanyuki, with plans for a major concert featuring international artists. The initiative strives to foster Africa’s creative economy by connecting communities through shared cultural experiences.
