Ada Police Shielding Gangsters?

The Ghana Navy Command stationed at Ada in the Greater Accra Region expressed surprise over the police's failure to take criminal action against three heavily built armed men recently arrested for engaging in gangsterism. The Navy reported that the three men attacked the Mensah/Adu family during the 2026 Asafotu Festival of the Ada Traditional Area.

Prior to the festival, the Navy received a letter from the family notifying it of the customary rites and rituals. Upon arriving at the residence, the Navy found no violence but two other individuals at the house, who were advised to maintain peace. Two police personnel were present when the Navy visited, but shortly after, the Navy heard gunshots from the house and retrieved two out of the three seized weapons.

The Navy handed over the guns and cartridges to the Ada District police, who officially lodged a complaint. Since then, the Navy has not been invited or allowed to provide a statement. The Mensah/Adu family lodged a complaint on August 8, and they asked for security during the customary rites and rituals before the festival. Despite the police sending two personnel, the armed men entered the house, fired gunshots, and seized family members' phones.

The Ada District Police Command confirmed receiving the complaint from the Navy but referred the matter to its superiors.
