Accra Metropolitan University inaugurated its new MSc Energy Management and Policy programme recently, with Vice Chancellor Professor Goski Alabi officiating at the event. The programme, intended to produce professionals well-versed in policy, management, and technology, aims to propel Ghana towards energy security. The inaugural event took place alongside a public lecture titled "Powering Ghana’s Future: Energy Security, Sustainable Transition, and Policy Innovation," which focused on sustainable energy solutions.
Professor Alabi, a professor of Quality Management, Strategic Leadership, and Corporate Governance at UPSA, highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the MSc programme, stating that it merges policy, management, innovation, and sustainability to prepare students to tackle Ghana's evolving energy demands and contribute to the nation's journey toward a resilient energy future.
To further support the program's mission, a skills development training center has been established to educate professionals in electrical services, renewable energy, electric mobility, e-vehicles, e-motors, e-engines, emerging energy-efficiency technologies, and digital skills such as drone piloting. Additionally, the university has obtained accreditation from the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) to train electricians within the TVET voucher program.
In collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the programme is set to commence in October, focusing on enhancing electricians' skills in advanced digital devices and appliances that promote national energy sustainability.
