ABVP retains PUCSC presidency as last-minute SOI support bolsters saffron outfit
In the final hours of the Panjab University Campus Students' Council (PUCSC) elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured a decisive victory, retaining the presidency for a second consecutive term with support from the Students' Organisation of India (SOI). ABVP candidate Ankit Bidhan defeated Aadil Brar of ASAP by 512 votes, marking the first time ABVP held the presidency for two consecutive terms.
Earlier, polling day tensions erupted at the Department of Laws, with allegations of entry gates being closed during voting hours. Despite the protest, Bidhan's victory highlighted ABVP's growing influence on the PU campus. The remaining executive positions were captured by candidates from rival student groups, including Armaan Singh Bhinder of Panjab University Democratic Front (PUDSF), Arjun Singh (Sameer), and Vishal (Bamal) from the Independent camp.
