2027: ADC warns gov candidates against violence, hate speech

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned its gubernatorial candidates against engaging in political violence, hate speech, and other forms of provocation as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. The party aims to establish a National Reconciliation Committee to address disputes arising from governorship primaries and bring back aggrieved aspirants and supporters.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed these plans after a meeting between the party's national chairman, Senator David Mark, and its governorship candidates at the party's national secretariat in Abuja. Abdullahi emphasized that the committee would work across the country to unite all party members following the primaries and in preparation for the general election.

He stressed that the ADC is against all forms of political intimidation, ethnic or religious mobilization, and personal attacks, urging candidates to focus on issues rather than resorting to violence or hate speech. The party expects its candidates to make the ADC's national policy agenda a central part of their campaigns, including addressing the proposed intervention on fuel pricing and the cost of living.

The ADC remains vigilant in addressing any incidents of political provocation, including attacks on its campaign teams and disruption of campaign activities, ensuring that it adheres to legal means and does not engage in retaliatory violence.
