The new tool also lets users move beyond crypto, with services such as restaurant reservations and flight bookings.

X’s AI tool Grok now allows users to buy or lend crypto with MoonPay integration

MoonPay, a crypto payments company, has introduced an AI-enabled payment and wallet tool called PayBox inside X's chatbot Grok. This integration allows users to perform various crypto transactions across multiple blockchain networks globally. MoonPay's launch of Grok showcases a growing trend in the crypto and payments industry of turning AI chatbots from mere question-answering tools into entities capable of conducting financial tasks.

In addition to crypto transactions, users can utilize Kamino, a Solana-based crypto lending platform, through PayBox to earn yield on USDC, a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle. Users can also leverage Grok for non-crypto activities, such as booking flights or making restaurant reservations, by simply asking the chatbot.

According to MoonPay, the process involves Grok preparing the transaction, the user approving it with a passkey, and the money moving seamlessly. This integration follows MoonPay's recent addition of a crypto lending feature through ChatGPT or Claude, limited to users outside the U.S., UK, EU, and Australia.

In July, MoonPay launched a platform enabling businesses and institutions to trade and move digital assets across over 200 blockchain networks. Five months prior, they released developer tools for AI agents to independently manage wallets and trade crypto. MoonPay's integration of AI payment tools into X is expected, considering Elon Musk's ownership of the platform and his long-standing interest in expanding crypto and digital money usage.

The integration of AI payment tools into X aligns with the current trend of agentic commerce, in which bots assist users in shopping, searching, and paying. In May 2025, Coinbase announced x402, a protocol enabling AI agents to pay for online services using stablecoins. Stripe followed in December with its Agentic Commerce Suite, providing businesses tools to sell via AI agents.

Circle launched Circle Agent Stack in May, offering AI agents wallets and payment tools to hold and spend USDC under specific rules. Additionally, Visa and Mastercard have launched initiatives in April 2025 to let AI agents search for products and make purchases using tokenized payment credentials.
