In Ceuta, two neighbors refused to leave their home overlooking Benítez beach this week due to fears that thousands of daily immigrant migrants would occupy it. They know all too well about such incidents, as two migrants climbed their balcony just days prior and had to be evicted. On Thursday, a group of Ceutians broke into the migrant camp on the same beach, chased away the Moroccan occupants, trashed the makeshift shelters, tossed some into the sea, burned others, along with blankets, bamboo poles serving as flimsy structures, and backpacks found there.

They sang "Bring them out, oh, bring them out, oh" just minutes earlier. On Wednesday, local resident Leila Mohamed from the El Príncipe neighborhood reported seeing a neighbor with a cut from a razor by an immigrant she discovered hiding in her garage. That same night, following a late-night protest, a group of Ceutians roamed the city center with sticks, looking for Moroccans walking down the street or sleeping in corners.
