SIBU, Aug 31 — A tour bus crash at the Kanowit roundabout along the Pan Borneo Highway left 23 people injured on Monday morning, according to a statement from Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre. Bomba received a distress call at 2.25am and dispatched six firefighters from the Sibu Jaya fire station to the scene.

The bus was carrying a total of 43 passengers when the accident occurred. Among them, 23 suffered injuries, with 19 women and four men affected. Fortunately, no victims were trapped inside the bus. Firefighters managed to assist one female victim to a safe location, while the remaining 42 injured passengers were helped out by members of the public before the arrival of the firefighters.

The rescue operation concluded at 4.50am once the scene was deemed safe and no additional actions were required.
