Tropical Depression Five tracker: When could it make landfall in Texas? List of cities under alert

A tropical storm warning was issued Monday for coastal areas of Louisiana and Texas as a potential tropical cyclone emerged in the Gulf. This marks the fifth system to develop during the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, leading to its interim classification by the National Hurricane Center as Potential Tropical Cyclone Five. If it continues to develop as forecasted, it will become Tropical Storm Edouard.

Forecasts predict that the storm will bring 3 to 6 inches of rain to coastal Texas and some inland regions in east-central Texas, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 9 inches. Southwestern Louisiana is expected to receive 2 to 3 inches. The National Hurricane Center warned that these rainfalls could cause flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and urban locales. Coastal regions could also face storm surge of up to 3 feet.

The warning zone encompasses portions of southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana, stretching from Port Bolivar, Texas, to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish line in Louisiana. The hurricane center, based in Miami, states that tropical storm conditions are likely within the next 24 to 36 hours. The latest forecast indicates the storm could reach the Gulf Coast by Tuesday.

On Monday morning, the storm was positioned approximately 130 miles from Morgan City, Louisiana, and 230 miles from Port Arthur, Texas. It was moving slowly westward toward the Gulf Coast. At around 11 a.m. ET, it was recorded with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, slightly below the 39 mph threshold for a tropical storm. Forecasts suggest the storm might intensify over the subsequent day.
