Transfer: Arsenal sign two Manchester United youngsters in academy recruitment drive

Arsenal have bolstered their youth ranks by signing two Manchester United academy players, James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye, as the Gunners bolster their developmental efforts. The 20-year-old Scanlon, who is set to turn 20 next month, joined the London club on Saturday, while Ogunneye, also 20, completed his move the following day.

Neither player had a senior appearance for Manchester United, but both enjoyed first-team opportunities on loan in League Two last season. Scanlon, an England-born winger representing Gibraltar, cited Arsenal's positive trajectory as a key factor in his decision to make the move. He praised the club's determination, stating, "Everyone here is hungrier for more, hungrier to get better, and I want to be a part of that."

Ogunneye, a right-back who spent last season on loan at Newport County, was drawn to Arsenal's reputation for promoting academy graduates. He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "When I heard Arsenal were interested in me, I said to my agents it's a no-brainer." The acquisitions mark a shift from Arsenal's earlier strategy of sending young players, like Ayden Heaven, to Manchester United in pursuit of first-team football. The signings are part of Arsenal's broader plan to integrate young talent into the senior squad.
