Tourism CS Rebecca Miano denies claims she was attacked by goons

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano addressed concerns regarding claims that she was assaulted by individuals while commuting to work. In a statement published on social media on August 31, 2026, Miano categorically denied the allegations, labeling them as false information. She urged the public to disregard the misleading reports, emphasizing that they were spreading rapidly and could not be trusted.

The controversy emerged following the dissemination of a video depicting a woman, whose identity was not definitively confirmed, being confronted by a motorcyclist while in a moving vehicle. The video showed the man threatening the woman and causing her car to halt, with the woman pleading for assistance in recording the incident.

As the situation escalated, stones were hurled at the car, resulting in damage to its windscreen. The woman repeatedly questioned her circumstances, questioning why she had been targeted. Although the video's subject's identity remains unverified, some interpreted the individual as Miano, prompting the cabinet secretary to publicly refute the accusations.

The incident is occurring amidst heightened apprehensions over political intimidation in Kenya, especially during opposition gatherings. Reports indicate that several political events have been disrupted by violence, leading to calls for enhanced security measures to safeguard peaceful political activities. The Tourism CS' statement comes after another reported attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo during a political function, where his vehicle was set ablaze.
